Scalise to Participate in American Energy Tour

July 10, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is awarding a $2,407,500 grant to the Jefferson Parish Public School System for records stabilization.

During Hurricane Katrina the Jefferson Parish Administration Building was severely damaged with wind driven rain and flooding. The building housed active and archived records, and these funds will be used to recover the damaged records.

“Jefferson Parish’s school system is still working to get back on their feet following the hurricane damage,” Scalise said. “Recovering records is a very tedious process but necessary for the well being of the school district. I’m pleased to see this grant awarded to Jefferson Parish so they can maintain their high level of operation in the school system.”

The work on the building will be performed by contract in accordance with local, state and federal procurement requirements. FEMA will obligate this funding directly to Louisiana and it is the state’s responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-grantees receive these awards.
