Scalise: Passage of Cut, Cap and Balance finally forces Washington to control spending
Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Cut, Cap and Balance Act of 2011. Yesterday, the Obama Administration announced that the President would veto the bill should it reach the President’s desk.
“Washington has a spending problem, and this bill will finally force the federal government to start living within its means so our children and grandchildren can have the same opportunity to live the American dream that we enjoy today,” Scalise said. “American families have been balancing their budgets to live within their means, and ‘cut, cap, and balance’ ensures that Washington finally has to adhere to that same philosophy that you can no longer keep spending money you don't have.
“President Obama’s irresponsible threat to veto Cut, Cap, and Balance highlights the divide between the President and the American people and shows that he’s not willing to make the necessary cuts to force the federal government to start living within its means. The President’s policies of reckless spending and tax hikes have failed miserably and it is time to change course by enacting this common-sense plan to cut up the credit card and end the government spending binge once and for all.”
