Scalise to pump gas for constituents, discuss skyrocketing gas prices in Metairie on Wednesday, June 8

June 6, 2011

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise will pump gas and meet with constituents on Wednesday to discuss the skyrocketing cost of gas and what he is doing to help bring down gas prices.

Scalise will be pumping gas at the Chevron in Metairie at noon CT on the corner of North Causeway Blvd. and West Esplanade Ave. (3605 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie, La. 70002).

“Gas prices have more than doubled since President Obama took office, and it is clear that we need to dramatically change course and implement a smart energy strategy that creates American jobs and lowers gas prices at the pump,” Scalise said. “I look forward to meeting with residents while pumping their gas and listening to their ideas to lower gas prices while also talking with them about things I’m working on in Congress to increase the supply of American energy to create good jobs here at home and lower the price of gas at the pump. American families who are struggling with high gas prices know that you cannot lower the price at the pump by shutting off known reserves of oil at home and shipping those jobs to foreign countries, including many OPEC nations who don’t like us.”

Scalise has been a leading proponent of an ‘America first’ energy strategy which increases our energy security by opening up more areas to explore for energy here at home, which will create thousands of good jobs in America and reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil. He is a member of the House Energy Action Team, and also recently led a bipartisan Congressional delegation on the 2011 American Energy Tour May 18 – 20. While on the tour, members met with stakeholders from the Louisiana energy industry, toured a deepwater drilling platform, visited with offshore drilling workers, and participated in a tour of the Louisiana coast.
