Video Response Remarks:
Hi, I’m Congressman Steve Scalise.
Tonight, President Obama stood before Congress and the American people to deliver his final State of the Union Address.
Unfortunately, we’ve heard this speech before.
Instead of offering real solutions to the challenges facing hard-working taxpayers, President Obama delivered more of the same divisive big government, “Washington-knows-best,” talking points we’ve heard since he was first sworn in.
Enough is enough.
American families are struggling and can’t get ahead.
Costs for everything from healthcare to groceries are on the rise, while wages remain flat.
Radical Islamic terrorists who wish to attack our freedoms and our American way of life are on the march.
Our allies don’t trust us, and our enemies clearly don’t respect or fear us.
It’s time for President Obama to abandon his failed liberal agenda and follow through on his promise to start working with the Republican-led Congress to address the priorities of the American people.
If the President is really serious about getting our country on the right track, he’ll join with Republicans to create jobs, to grow a healthy economy, and to keep Americans safe both here at home and abroad.
Already this year, the Republican-led Congress has fulfilled our commitment to the American people to gut Obamacare, defund Planned Parenthood, reduce radical regulations on hard-working taxpayers and strengthen our national defense in the face of growing threats.
It’s not too late for this President to fulfill his commitment to work with Congress, even in his last year in office.
I urge him to start now.
