Scalise, Richmond Statement on Tornado Damage at Michoud Facility

February 23, 2017

METAIRIE, La. - Congressmen Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Cedric Richmond (D-La.) released the following statement today regarding tornado damage and recovery plans for NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. Among the tenants housed at the facility is the USDA National Finance Center, which processes payroll and performs other HR functions for over 170 agencies and 650,000 federal employees.

“The Michoud facility is an economic engine for the region, and the damage it suffered has affected businesses, federal agencies, and residents of the area,” said Rep. Richmond. “We are committed to getting the resources needed to rebuild not only these facilities, but the homes and businesses of all our constituents who were impacted by this month’s tornadoes. We will do everything we can to help everyone get their lives back on track. As we continue to work with NASA and the National Finance Center we will ensure that the hard working people of this area can return to their jobs and continue their high quality work.”

“The NASA Michoud facility is a critical asset to America's space program, as well as southeast Louisiana, employing over 3,000 people and housing other tenants on its campus, including the USDA's National Finance Center. This month’s severe tornado damage has had a massive impact on the New Orleans community, and we are dedicated to ensuring that the facility receives the resources it needs to rebuild,” said Rep. Scalise. “I applaud the USDA National Finance Center’s commitment to remaining at Michoud for the long term, and will continue to work alongside my colleagues in Louisiana’s Congressional delegation to ensure that the families and communities affected by this destruction have the support they need to rebuild and recover.”
