Scalise Statement on 2017 Congressional App Challenge winners

December 7, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) made the following statement regarding Louisiana's first Congressional district 2017 Congressional App Challenge winners. These four students from Northshore High School created "Cajun Cookout", an app that teaches budget management tools in the form of a game.

“I congratulate Northshore High School students Anna Yue, Charles Blackwell, Claire Picou, and Cody Armand for winning the 2017 Congressional App Challenge for the First Congressional District. Their hard work, creativity, and technological skills are to be commended. As a former software engineer, I am excited to see schools and students in southeast Louisiana focusing on technology and being creative about how to apply technology in our everyday lives. These four high school students took their passion in coding and appreciation for Cajun cuisine, and combined it with their idea about budget management to make a working application. I congratulate them for their work and success with this app, and commend Northshore High for their investment and focus on technological education.”

Congressman Scalise is a former software engineer who earned a degree in Computer Science from Louisiana State University.
