Scalise Statement On The Administration’s Continued War On Coal

January 15, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Steve Scalise (R-La.) today released the following statement disapproving of the Department of Interior’s announcement to overhaul the federal coal program and halt new coal leases on federal land.

“Today’s ‘Friday News Dump’ from the Department of Interior is a yet another destructive step in President Obama's reckless pursuit of destroying the American coal industry, and the thousands of jobs that go along with it,” Rep. Scalise said. “This is even further proof that the Obama Administration is conducting a war on coal. This ‘pause’ for coal leases on federal land traps our natural resources in the ground, where the Obama White House wants them to stay, and sends the wrong signal that jeopardizes American energy security and jobs. I will continue fighting these radical regulations that threaten jobs and America's economy.”
