Scalise Statement on GE Technology Center Announcement

February 17, 2012

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Steve Scalise today released the following statement after General Electric (GE) announced the opening of a new technology center in the New Orleans region. The new technology center will bring hundreds of high-paying jobs to the region.

“Today’s announcement is a tremendous win for our region, and I commend Governor Jindal and his entire economic team led by Stephen Moret for presenting such a strong proposal and closing the deal,” Scalise said. “I applaud GE for believing in New Orleans and for establishing this training center which will bring hundreds of high-paying jobs to our region in the months ahead.

“It says a lot about our recovery that a major corporation like GE has decided to establish a base in New Orleans, and this announcement sends a strong signal to the entire country that Louisiana has turned the corner and is a leading location to do business. Working with business owners and economic development organizations to create jobs in Southeast Louisiana continues to be one of my top priorities, and I’m glad that our efforts are once again paying off as more companies recognize the benefits of doing business in Louisiana.”

Scalise met with GE officials numerous times over the last few months in support of the State’s bid to land the GE Technology Center, including a meeting on February 13 with GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt.
