Scalise Statement on HHS Conscience Protection Decision

October 6, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C.— HouseMajority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement regarding the Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) decision to ensure conscience protections from mandated contraception and abortifacients coverage in employee health care plans:

“I applaud the Trump administration for once again standing up for the religious freedoms that were trampled on during the Obama administration. One of our most basic rights is the ability to freely practice our faith, and today’s decision to ensure conscience protections are in place will guarantee that no one will be forced by the government to violate their religious beliefs. I look forward to continuing to work in Congress and with President Trump to fight for and defend our religious freedom.”
