Scalise Statement on Kavanaugh Confirmation

WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement following the U.S. Senate’s vote to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh as an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court:

“I applaud the Senate for confirming Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. After one of the most exhaustive background checks in the history of the Senate’s ‘advice and consent’ role, Judge Kavanaugh has proven he has the integrity and judicial temperament to serve on the nation’s highest court.

“Democrats made a mockery of the confirmation process by trying to destroy Judge Kavanaugh’s good name, and sank to a new low when they violated Dr. Ford’s anonymity request by leaking her name to the media because they thought it would benefit their misguided political agenda.

“When the American people elected President Donald Trump, they made it clear that they wanted justices on the Supreme Court who will follow the law and interpret the Constitution as it is written, rather than legislating from the bench. Judge Kavanaugh has demonstrated these values throughout his entire career.

“I look forward to Judge Kavanaugh serving on the Supreme Court for decades to come, and I congratulate President Trump on another successful confirmation.”
