Scalise Statement on Request for Federal Disaster Declaration

February 11, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Majority Whip Steve Scalise issued the following statement regarding Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards’ request for a federal disaster declaration:

“I support the request made by Governor Edwards for a federal disaster declaration in the wake of this week’s extremely damaging tornado activity in Louisiana, especially in New Orleans East, where hardworking homeowners and key federal properties like NASA’s Michoud facility were hit hard.

“I ask President Trump to consider this request in an expeditious manner, and I will continue working closely with my colleagues in Louisiana’s Congressional delegation, as well as federal, state and local authorities, to ensure that the families and communities affected by these tornadoes have the support they need to rebuild and recover.”
