Scalise Strongly Opposes “Cap and Trade” Energy Tax

June 26, 2009

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise made the following statement regarding the “cap and trade” energy tax bill that was being debated today the House of Representatives.

“This cap and trade energy tax will raise utility costs on every American family to generate $646 billion in new taxes, while shipping millions of American jobs to foreign countries like China. This bill actually creates more carbon emissions, because when manufacturers of products like steel move out of the U.S. because of this bill, foreign countries emit up to four times as much carbon. This national energy tax will raise utility costs on all American families, and will wreck the U.S. economy.”
