Scalise Works to Kick Start Hwy 3241
Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise gathered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), and local elected officials in his office this week to work on solving the problems that have been delaying Highway 3241 from I-12 to Bush. Scalise was able to get the Corps to agree to an 18 month timeline to complete the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
“This project has been stuck in bureaucratic red tape for over 20 years, and I want to eliminate any further delays,” Scalise said. “This highway is greatly needed to relieve traffic congestion, provide a safe evacuation route and help facilitate economic growth for St. Tammany and Washington Parishes. I wanted to get all parties involved in the same room so we could discuss the issues causing delays and get an agreement on a plan to get this project back on track. I am committed to getting Hwy 3241 built, and our meeting this week was very productive.”
Joining Scalise in his office were Washington Parish President Richard Thomas, a representative from Parish President Kevin Davis’s office, Sen. Ben Nevers, Rep. Harold Richie, Rep. Scott Simon, representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers and representatives from the DOTD.
LA. Hwy 3241 has been under development for more than 20 years. Scalise has submitted this project to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for authorization in the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill, also know as the federal Highway Bill.
Scalise and all parties have agreed to a status meeting in May to be sure that the Corps is keeping completion of the EIS on schedule.
