Scalise Announces 2023 Congressional App Challenge Winner

December 8, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) announced Alex Jorns of Chalmette, La., as the 2023 Congressional App Challenge winner for Louisiana's First Congressional District. Jorns created College Collage, an app designed to help high school students choose a college during the selection process.

“Congratulations to our 2023 Congressional App Challenge winner, Alex Jorns from Chalmette! Choosing a college can be one of the biggest decisions in a young person’s life, and College Collage can help them make that decision with filters to find a school that fits their interests and needs. As a former computer programmer, I’m always pleased to see our students identify challenges in their lives and create real-world solutions using technology,” said Majority Leader Scalise.

The application utilizes spreadsheet filters to help students view colleges that fit their needs using location, enrollment size, cost, acceptance rate and required ACT score. College Collage compiles other useful resources for students including tips on using the spreadsheet, contact information and data visualizations to help students choose where to apply.
