Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) has awarded a $100,000 continuation grant to the Coalition for a Better Tomorrow in Hammond.

“Keeping our children off drugs is a community wide effort,” Scalise said. “The Coalition for a Better Tomorrow and Quad Area do an excellent job reducing youth substance abuse and this funding will help them maintain their high standard of preventing drug use by children.”

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a total of $12,690,551 in grants to Louisiana for hurricane recovery.

Regarding the FEMA grant, Scalise said, “We have all been working hard with FEMA to get the reimbursements that are so important to continue removing debris and rebuilding our educational infrastructure. This grant will help speed up the cumbersome process.”

Washington, DC -- Congressman Scalise today issued a statement regarding President Bush’s announcement of lifting the executive order moratorium of offshore drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf.

Last week Congressman Scalise met with Vice President Cheney and urged him to have the White House lift the executive ban. Scalise also met this morning at the White House with one of President Bush’s advisors, again urging that the OCS ban be lifted. Scalise said that the pressure from the White House will help put the pressure on Congress to act.

During Hurricane Katrina the Jefferson Parish Administration Building was severely damaged with wind driven rain and flooding. The building housed active and archived records, and these funds will be used to recover the damaged records.

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today introduced his bill to address the national energy crisis by increasing the supply of American oil to lower the price of gas and provide Louisiana with more of its fair share of offshore oil and gas revenue.

Washington, DC -- U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise and U.S. Sen. David Vitter today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime is awarding a $757,000 grant to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement.

This grant provides funds through the Crime Victims Fund for compensation payments for victims of crime for crime-related expenses. The funds are administered by the State and are used for crisis intervention, emergency shelter and transportation, and criminal justice advocacy to victims of crime.
