Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration has awarded $1,083,702 for highway projects in St. Tammany Parish.

“St. Tammany Parish has seen a significant increase in population over the last few years, and it is important for our infrastructure to keep up with this growth,” Scalise said. “These highway projects will help ensure the safety and quality of life that St. Tammany Parish residents deserve, while allowing local business to continue to grow as well.”

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that Tangipahoa Parish will receive a grant of $699,400 from the U.S. Minerals Management Service through the Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP).

“Flood protection continues to be one of my top priorities,” Scalise said. “After witnessing the devastation in the Manchac area following Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, we know how important this funding will be to help protect homes and businesses from future storm surge.”

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today made the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the $787 billion “stimulus” bill that promised to keep unemployment under eight percent. Unemployment rates recently rose above 10 percent. Nearly $272 billion dollars have been spent leaving approximately $514 billion as the remaining balance. Scalise has proposed to use the remaining balance to pay down the national debt.

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise gathered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), and local elected officials in his office this week to work on solving the problems that have been delaying Highway 3241 from I-12 to Bush. Scalise was able to get the Corps to agree to an 18 month timeline to complete the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

“President Obama’s new budget adds $1.6 trillion to next year’s deficit and raises taxes by more than $2 trillion on small businesses and middle class families. This makes it clear that he was only paying lip service when he said his budget would focus on job creation and the deficit while presenting a budget that does the opposite.”
