Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise responded to the preliminary findings issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on the status of the investigation into problems associated with toxic Chinese drywall.

Washington, DC -- Congressman Scalise made the following comment on the passing of former Governor Dave Treen today.

“I was sad to hear of the passing of former Governor Dave Treen. Dave Treen will always be remembered as one of the most decent and honorable men in the history of Louisiana politics. He laid the foundation for ethics reform, and set the standard for integrity in public service. It was a true honor to have known Dave Treen, and to call him a friend. This is a sad loss for the state, and Jennifer and I will keep his family in our prayers.”

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise played in the 2009 Longest Yard Football Classic to raise money for the Capitol Police Memorial Fund and the Washington Literacy Council. The game raised almost $60,000 this year.

The “Mean Machine” team, comprised of a bi-partisan group of Members of Congress and former NFL players, beat the Capitol Police “Guards” team 32-26 in overtime last night at the Army National Guard Armory in Washington, D.C. This was the first victory for the “Mean Machine” since the game was founded in 2005.

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise will meet with the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate tomorrow, Wednesday, October 28, in Scalise’s Washington D.C. office. Scalise will ask Fugate about the thousands of outstanding Public Assistance projects, clarification on Hurricane Katrina Community Disaster Loan (CDL) forgiveness, and for support of the Disaster Recovery Improvement Act, H.R. 3453.

Washington, DC -- The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) has named Congressman Steve Scalise a “Taxpayer Hero.” Scalise scored a 90 percent on the recently released CCAGW 2008 Congressional Ratings, a ranking that placed him in the top five percent of all House Members.

“Rep. Scalise put the interests of taxpayers ahead of politics by consistently voting to cut wasteful spending, reduce the tax burden, and make government more accountable to taxpayers,” said CCAGW President Tom Schatz. “Rep. Scalise’s votes give taxpayers hope for the future.”
