Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise will be hosting a Crime and Corruption Forum in Jefferson Parish on Wednesday, August 19, to discuss ways for citizens to fight crime and corruption.

“These law enforcement officials on our panel are on the front line in the war against crime and corruption,” Scalise said. “They will share important insights into how citizens can get more involved and remain vigilant in fighting crime and corruption.”

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise congratulates the LSU Tigers Baseball Team and Coach Paul Mainieri on their College World Series victory, which marks the school’s sixth baseball national championship.

“The LSU baseball team put together a dream season, culminated by an exciting College World Series national championship,” Scalise said. “Tigers Coach Paul Mainieri has done a wonderful job putting LSU back on top as one of college baseball’s elite programs.”

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that he is leading the 2009 American Energy Tour in New Orleans, June 29-30. Scalise will take other Members of Congress on a tour of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) on Monday to learn more about offshore oil and gas production and coastal erosion, and receive briefings on Tuesday from the Minerals Management Service (MMS) regarding offshore drilling and the leasing process.

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today personally met with FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate to discuss a number of issues regarding hurricane recovery, including the current backlog of Public Assistance (PA) projects, reforming FEMA, and forgiveness procedures for Community Disaster Loans (CDLs).

Scalise hand delivered documents to Administrator Fugate requesting assistance for entities waiting on the forgiveness of CDLs including St. Tammany Parish and East Jefferson General Hospital.

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today sent a letter to Peter Orszag, President Obama’s Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), urging him to remove the lock usage tax from the FY 2010 Budget. There are 23 other Members of Congress from around the country that have signed on to Scalise’s bi-partisan letter.

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today submitted a statement to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works for a committee hearing titled, “A Hearing on New Orleans Hurricane and Flood Protection and Coastal Louisiana.”

Scalise urged his colleagues in the House and Senate to support Options 2 and 2a, Category 5 hurricane protection, and beneficial use of dredged material for coastal restoration. Joe Rault, Tom Jackson and Steven Peyronnin of Louisiana all testified at the committee today in support of Options 2 and 2a.
